i find myself tender-hearted in the wake of farewells
because, although the scenery will change, there will be a piece of me that is forever lost to this place
it won’t be the fading memories of long-lost landscapes,
nor the distance we traveled,
but the way that you laughed as i held you in my arms that will stay with me on the way home
the sidelong glances,
the way your eyes lit up at the simplest of pleasures,
stoked inspiration in me that had lain dormant
my life is uncertain in this moment,
but your touch was enough to quell the angst
as i chase this wanderlust across the globe, you, and all that we shared, will be my companions
and i know that you have given me the greatest gift i could have received from this place — a reason to return
