One day, you’ll pretend that you weren’t one of them.
That you didn’t stand idly by as your neighbors were ripped from their homes
As children were left in despair, torn from their families, and wrenched away from innocence
You’ll pretend that you didn’t see the signs
That you didn’t know what the outcome might be
One day, you’ll pretend that you fought the good fight
That you saw the suffering of your fellow human beings, and shared their pain
One day, you’ll pretend that you didn’t stand behind the tyranny
That you didn’t harbor the hatred that has so viciously consumed us
One day, you’ll pretend that you didn’t stand back as the freedoms that once made this nation great were desecrated for the world to see
One day, you’ll pretend that you weren’t one of them
And I pray that, on that day, we won’t believe you.
